Team1:Players

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Fox (talk | contribs) at 12:46, July 10, 2007. It may differ significantly from current revision.

We can discuss our strategy on this page. The other team supposedly can't read it (I can't read their page). Unless Sharon and Andy peek in here (which they won't do), we should be ok. This will be better than private emails, as the entire team can see this in one place. I'm not putting anything in the summary, because I don't want it to show up in the recent changes. --Crocoite 02:40, 8 July 2007 (EDT)

For some reason, I could see the whole part above in the recent changes. I wonder who else can see it? --Crocoite 02:43, 8 July 2007 (EDT)
I think it does that with all New pages, unfortunately :( As for strategy, I'm holding back a shed load of articles until the competition starts, hence, I've been only really doing minor edits the last few days. File:User Fox.png Fox (talk|contribs) 09:34, 8 July 2007 (EDT)

Also, you could work on the types of hummingbirds, found here, there is over 300 types left. Since we can get points from welcoming people, just go in the new users file and post welcomes on their talk pages. Just a few suggestions. --BethTalk2ME 12:33, 8 July 2007 (EDT)

I am going to be doing what I would normally do. I didn't want to be rude and say I didn't want to be in the contest. Please don't send me a lot of mail regarding the contest. I am not sure how active I am going to be in regards to Conservapedia in the short term. If you want to replace me I have no problems with that. Conservative 13:32, 8 July 2007 (EDT)
From my viewpoint, I would say your normal production for Conservapedia is already at a point where you will be an asset. Who knows, you may well get caught up in the contest as well and put in just a bit extra. It's all for fun anyway and the good of Conservapedia. ;-) Learn together 02:44, 9 July 2007 (EDT)

I'm still making entries, but they're mostly stragglers. When the contest begins, I intend to start creating articles in rapid succession, and hopefully types that Andy will be pleased with for the overall feel of Conservapedia. I intend to have fun! I hope everyone else does too. ;-) Learn together 15:19, 8 July 2007 (EDT)

Strategy

The two things I suggest are these:

  • We make each relevent article the best it can be. It means NO STUBS; we build upon any stubs that are there and expand them considerably. If we have to, use Britannica as a guide (and only a guide...no copying!) to structure and flow of thought.
  • We beat the pants off the others. Period.

Karajou 14:31, 8 July 2007 (EDT)

How many lines do you consider "It is not a Stub"? That is very important because of time and effort. --User:Joaquín Martínez, talk 23:52, 8 July 2007 (EDT)
A stub to me is between a couple sentences to a paragraph long. That is much too short. Picture this stub:
  • The Bermuda Triangle is a mysterious body of water which has caused many ships and airplanes to disappear. Among the most famous disappearences is Flight 19.
What I just wrote is a typical stub, very common to CP...and yes, I hate them! They sound too short and too much like the third grade. Now click on both of those links and you'll see my solution to stubs, which is the quality and detail to what I want to see in our contest. Karajou 00:29, 9 July 2007 (EDT)

Those two articles are just great but, how many of them could a player make a day?

Please see Chicken. As at this moment what we are suppose to do is to win the Contest, articles like Chicken could give us 120 points per player daily. --User:Joaquín Martínez, talk 00:52, 9 July 2007 (EDT)

We must all do our best. What each of us could try to do is concentrate on at least one good, detailed article a day, then post them here. If assistance is requested, or if several people wish to contribute to make a single article better, such as Sasquatch below, then we could also post it here. It's the detailed, informative articles that I think will win for us; the other people won't be thinking of that at all. Karajou 00:56, 9 July 2007 (EDT)

I understand your point of view, but an excellent article will give us only 10 points. As I think the team has to work together with the same spirit, please choose one length I we all will try to work with that idea. --User:Joaquín Martínez, talk 01:07, 9 July 2007 (EDT)

Something I think would be helpful would be to put links on this page for the sections we should be checking up:

  • New Users
  • Recent edits
  • Entries without categories
  • Entries that are stubs, etc.

Phillip once showed me a way to check up every article on Conservapedia in alpha order, but that no longer works. Any helpful tips or tricks of the trade are appreciated. ;-) Learn together 15:19, 8 July 2007 (EDT)

Can any one contact Beth? Maybe She doesn't know contest could begin next Tuesday. --User:Joaquín Martínez, talk 23:52, 8 July 2007 (EDT)

Lock the articles

We should lock each article we do when posted until the end of the contest, that way we have no interference from a non-sysop who wants to edit (or vandalize) each article. Karajou 00:32, 9 July 2007 (EDT)

First article: Sasquatch

I've got a big part of this article started, and we could work on it together. The layout is what you see so far, followed by:

hair evidence
fingerprint evidence
photographic evidence
Patterson/Gimlin film
scientific criticism
references
links

illustrations as needed. Karajou 00:44, 9 July 2007 (EDT)

Communication

For internal communication, please use the E-Mail better than this page. It is not for security but for efficiency.

- Send the E-Mail and leave at the CP Talk page of the player the following message: "em"

- If you see in your Talk page "em" please check your personal Mail.

At present I have this addresses:

Fox: nexus.central@googlemail.com

Crocoite: crocoitecp@yahoo.com

Learn together: bbagot@mcwe.com

Joaquin: jmrmex@yahoo.com

Tash: snsanchor@gmail.com

I will try to get the others. --User:Joaquín Martínez, talk 07:45, 9 July 2007 (EDT)

Proposal of STRATEGY AND TACTICS

Feel free to work in this Contest as you please, according to your personal skills.

STRATEGY

I think a winning strategy could be this one:

- Try to make articles like Chicken, that could give us about 120 points a day per player. (estimated).

TACTICS

- Start with an IMAGE or PHOTO, and then add a short introductory text, one paragraph as reference, and some links. Finally set the Category.

It is easer to find a good text for an image than to find an good image for a text.

At this moment for Conservapedia is important to have many brief articles. --User:Joaquín Martínez, talk 08:30, 9 July 2007 (EDT)

As Rule 4 says: "They will keep a record of their work on a page set aside for that purpose."

Please be ready with your personal RECORD PAGE. --User:Joaquín Martínez, talk 08:51, 9 July 2007 (EDT)

Sites with Public domain material

Send by Aschlafly on (01:15, 9 July 2007)

Joaquin, one good type of resource that I want you to be aware of is this: United States government websites. Because we funded those websites as taxpayers, there is no copyright protection and we can almost always copy information from them without attribution or restriction. If the information is unbiased, as in scientific terms or information about countries or numerous other topics, then copying from those websites is fine. The same is not true for state websites (e.g., California or Florida), because they often do assert a copyright. Also, there may be prohibitions on copying certain US government images, such as the emblem for a division of government like the CIA.

--User:Joaquín Martínez, talk 01:20, 9 July 2007 (EDT)

Federal government images are not bound by copyright restrictions. Karajou 01:21, 9 July 2007 (EDT)

We still have to give credit where credit is due. Just because it is public domain does not mean we shouldn't acknowledge the source. At the bottom of the article in question, we should state a disclaimer something like "This article written in part from material contributed from the Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships of the United States Naval Institute, which is in the public domain." Karajou 14:37, 9 July 2007 (EDT)

If you add
{{License|license = This work is in the [[public domain]] in the United States because it is a work of the United States Federal Government under the terms of Title 17, Chapter 1, Section 105 of the US Code.}}
you will be correctly tagged. You can add the source info if you like, using
{{License|license = This work is in the [[public domain]] in the United States because it is a work of the United States Federal Government under the terms of Title 17, Chapter 1, Section 105 of the US Code.| source = ['''INSERT LINK HERE''']}}
