Cronus in Greek mythology is the ruler of the Titans, the descendents of Gaia (the earth) and Uranus (the sky). He overthrew his father, Uranus, to become the ruler of the heavens. He, in turn, was overthrown by his son Zeus, who would then rule the gods after the Titans were banished.
