Perhaps the most influential work in history has been written by someone while in prison. There are few distractions and the pen is mightier than the sword. Please add to these examples:
- much of the New Testament, including letters from Paul and Peter, and perhaps a Gospel
- Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyon while in jail for religious persecution
- Rev. Martin Luther King's letter from a Birmingham jail
- Jean-Victor Poncelet's advances in projective geometry as a prisoner-of-war in Russia
- Mein Kampf, a horrific, influential work written by Adolf Hitler while in jail
