Kansas City Royals
The Kansas City Royals are a Major League Baseball team based in Kansas City, Missouri. They were founded in 1969, after the 1967 move of the Kansas City Athletics to Oakland, California so enraged Missouri's then-U.S. Senator Stuart Symington that he threatened to revoke MLB's antitrust exemption. Since their founding, they have been part of the American League, and are currently part of the Central Division.
The Royals have been based in Kauffman Stadium since 1973, although Kauffman Stadium was named "Royals Stadium" until 1993. Previously, they were based in Municipal Stadium. Kauffman Stadium is located in the Truman Sports Complex, standing next to Arrowhead Stadium, home of the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Royals went to the World Series in 1980, where they were defeated 4-2 by the Philadephia Phillies, and in 1985, where they defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 4-3 in what was known as the "Show-Me Series" (after the Missouri state motto). However, the team has not returned to the playoffs since.
The team is currently managed by Buddy Bell.
