Fatah
Fatah (Arabic فتح) is a Palestinian secular nationalist organization.[1] The name itself is a reverse acronym of Harakat al-Tahrir al-Watani al-Filastini. The organization is currently headed by Farouk Kaddoumi, the secretary-general of the Fatah central committee, and was created by Yasser Arafat in the early 1960's[2]. Politically, Fatah falls left-of-center, bordering on socialism. Fatah has observer status with Socialist International.[3] Mahmoud Abbas, a member of Fatah, is currently the president of the Palestinian National Authority.[4] In 2006 Fatah lost many seats in the Palestinian Elections. Even though people voted for Hamas people in the elections, Fatah refused to give up the seats.[5]
The political wing of Fatah is not considered terrorists by any country in the world, unlike Hamas. The military wing of Fatah, the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, are considered terrorists though.[6]
