San Francisco is a city in California and is generally considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It has a higher proportion of homosexuals than any other city in the United States[Citation Needed], and in 2004, its mayor, Gavin Newsom, attempted to perform same-sex marriages despite the practice being explicitly illegal under California law. Not surprisingly, the marriages were nullified by the courts shortly thereafter.

San Francisco is known for its computer industry and has been one of the most economically strong cities of the last twenty years.

Famous San Francisco landmarks include the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz Island.
