Theo Van Gogh (1957-2004) was a Dutch filmmaker and free-speech activist who co-directed the 2003 film Submission with Ayaan Hirsi Ali, which showed how badly women in Islamic countries were treated. He was the great-grandson of Vincent Van Gogh's brother.
In 2004, he was brutally murdered by an Islamic extremist, because of Submission and his criticism of Islam. This case has inspired many right-wing activists in Holland to speak out against the threat of radical Islam, especially Geert Wilders.
