Sharron Angle
Sharron Angle (born July 26, 1949 in Klamath Falls, Oregon) is the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate for Nevada, to challenge Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in the 2010 election. On October 3, 2010, she received the endorsement for this election by Nevada's largest newspaper, the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Sharron Angle served as a member of the Nevada General Assembly from 1999 through 2007. She is also a member of the National Rifle Association and the National Right to Life Committee.
Angle attended Reno public schools and graduated the University of Nevada with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She went on to become a substitute teacher, taught art courses at Western Nevada Community College and co-founded and administrated a twenty-four student Christian school. Angle was a registered Democrat from 1984 to 1988, although voted for Ronald Reagan in 1980 and 1984, and was in the Independent American Party from 1992 until 1997. [1]
Angle's first elected office was the Nye County School Board of Trustees in 1990. After her election in 1998, Angle rose to become Minority Whip in the Nevada Legislature. She narrowly lost a campaign for the Republican nomination for Congress to Nevada Secretary of State Dean Heller by just 428 votes.
Angle's candidacy for Senate surged after the endorsement from the Tea Party Express and Sarah Palin, and defeated former State Senator Sue Lowden and businessman Danny Tarkanian in the Republican primary.
