The March for Life is an annual event in Washington, D.C. that peacefully commemorates the tragedy of abortion.[1] The next March will be on Monday, January 24, 2011. (Note that this is not on January 22, because that falls on a Saturday in 2011.)

The March for Life began in 1974, on the first anniversary of Roe v. Wade (1973). Founded by Miss Nellie Gray, who has led it ever since, she also has a non-profit organization by the same name which provides educational workshops typically the day before the march.

The March for Life has grown to participation by about 1 in every 400 Americans from East of the Mississippi River[2] (and many travel from out West also):

Year Estimated Attendance
1974 20,000[3]
1975 50,000[4]
1976 65,000[4]
2000 100,000[4]
2005 200,000[4]
2008 225,000[3]
2009 300,000
2010 400,000
