The Boland Amendment was an amendment to the Defense Appropriation Act of 1983, proposed by Edward Boland, a Democrat from Massachussetts. This amendment prohibited the US government from providing funds to the Contras to overthrow the Sandinista government of Nicaragua.
The discovery that the United States, through Israel, provided arms to the Contras triggered the Iran-Contra Affair.
