There have historically been very few noteworthy female scientists or mathematicians.

Here are a few:

  • Lise Meitner (physicist)
  • Emma Noether (mathematician)
  • Sophie Germain (mathematician)
  • Ida Noddack (physicist)
  • Jocelyn Bell (astronomer)
  • Ada Lovelace (computer pioneer, held by many to be the "first programmer")
