The AFL-CIO (American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations) is a liberal organization of national and international labor unions. The AFL-CIO is a coalition partner of the liberal coalition America Votes.[1]

As of 2024, 60 unions are members. The two largest members (and, not surprisingly, the most liberal) are the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). Also, the players' unions of Major League Baseball and the National Football League are affiliated unions (the unions for the NBA and the NHL are not).

The claimed mission of the AFL-CIO is to improve the lives of working families—to bring economic justice to the workplace and social justice to the United States.[2] However, the organization supports illegal alien workers who are employed in the place of American citizen workers.[3]

Support for Democrats and other organizations

The AFL-CIO gives money directly to the Democrats and 527 liberal organizations.[4] It also supported the Occupy Wall Street-movement.
