A Civic Biology[1] was an American high school biology textbook by George William Hunter published by the American Book Company in 1914.
In addition to standard biological information, the book supported racist views of humanity, endorsing evolution and eugenics.
It was the textbook used in the school in Dayton, Tennessee, in 1925 when teacher John Scopes was charged with teaching the evolution of mankind in the famous "Scopes Trial".
In the revised edition released in 1926, the publishers removed any mention of the word "evolution" from it, because of the anti-evolution movement.[2]
