Checho Hirane is a Chilean center-right political commentator, economist and humorist that works at Radio Agricultura. His family is from Arab-Palestinian origins. He is a defender of the economic side of the Military Government from President Augusto Pinochet and the Military Intervention of 1973. He is mostly in line with Chile Vamos parties and was a critic of Michelle Bachelet's Administration.

He is pro-Palestine but he got along very well with the Jew panelist, Sergio Melnick, on his radio program, considering him a friend.[1] Checho was expelled by leftists on one of the pro-Palestinian marches.

Biography

Sergio Hirane Sarkis was born in Santiago de Chile on January 27, 1955. At an early age he began to demonstrate his artistic abilities performing at school festivals, winning at the age of 7 a song festival organized by the children's program "Colorín Colorado" of the Television Corporation of the University of Chile.

Since he was a child his friends called him "Checho" and with time this nickname became his artistic name.

His definitive vocation is amalgamated through the incorporation in theatrical plays of his school occupying the leading roles. At the age of 15 he enters the Military School where he continues to develop his artistic vein by participating in musical and theatrical circles with great success. In this headquarters he was a direct subordinate of Miguel Krassnoff, his commanding officer, now unjustly a political prisoner.

In 1973 he entered the Catholic University of Chile where he graduated as a Commercial Engineer. From his first university steps, he became an entertainer of all the artistic events of the university, such as festivals, university weeks, etc., becoming the youngest director (19 years old), of the famous university classics, which were shows that took place on the occasion of the confrontation of the professional soccer teams of the Catholic and Chilean Universities, with more than a thousand artists on stage.

His professional career as a showman began in 1983, performing in a Café Concert with great public success. This fact called the attention of the press, since he was a figure that attracted the public without having appeared on television.

Career

His professional beginnings as a humorist began in 1983 at Queen's Pub in Las Condes. The first specialized review was made by the journalist Italo Passalacqua in the newspaper La Segunda on April 27, 1983. After a season at Queen's Pub, he was hired at the Hotel Galerías and then at the Holiday Inn Hotel. Soon after, the Sheraton Hotel invites him to participate in a show of major production with renowned international figures. Due to the success achieved and where television directors noticed him, he was invited to participate in the International Song Festival of Viña del Mar, where he received the Silver Torch, which is the award given by the public to the favorite artists. After his performance at the Viña del Mar Festival, he begins a meteoric career performing in more than 700 star programs on Chilean television. Televisión Nacional de Chile hires him to join the stable team of the program “Siempre Lunes” hosted by Antonio Vodanovic, remaining for more than four seasons. The Corporación de Televisión de la Universidad Católica de Chile, Canal 13, hires him to host the program “Una Vez Más” with the prestigious host Raúl Matas, with whom he works for five seasons. The same Channel 13 gives him the opportunity to become the host of “Video Loco”, a program with the participation of Álvaro Salas, Eliseo Salazar and the charming Carolina Arregui. “Video Loco” breaks all the records of tuning, becoming the program with the highest rating in Chilean television during the six years of its broadcasting. Megavisión hires him to host the programs “No Te Pierdas El Festival”, “Domingo a Domingo” and “Videos y Penitencia”, participating in the channel for seven years. During several years and parallel to his television activity, he associates with his singer friend, "Miguelo", with whom he forms two showrooms; first “El Café de Miguelo y Checho” and later “Romeo”, Pub that became a success, being the showroom with the highest box office during its eight years of existence.

For more than five years he worked as the official entertainer of the Municipal Casino of Viña del Mar, whose showroom is considered the main closed stage of the country. Additionally, he participates in different and diverse charity campaigns as important as Teletón, Campaña Contra Las Drogas, Chile Ayuda a Chile, Hogar de Cristo, etc. During 2005 he hosts the late show "Nunca es Tarde" and the morning show "En Portada" with the wonderful Marcela Vacarezza in Red Televisión. At the same time, Checho Hirane participates in the television program "Golf Tour" in TVO Television. Since 2002 he has been the host and general director of the radio program "Conectados con Agricultura" on Radio Agricultura. He also had a talk show in La Red from 2021 to 2022.
