Existential psychology is a clinically based paradigm that is based on the French existential philosophy. The primary focus is on the concept of existential angst which is described as the feeling of recognition of the meaninglessness of ones own life and being alone in the universe. Existential psychologist believe this angst is a central component to the human existence and therapy focuses on attempting to get the patient to recognize this angst and its role in his own psychology and behavior and to come to terms with its reality.

Existential psychology does not recognize the concept of a psychological disorder. All methods of living are merely the choice of the individual and do not need to be cured or altered, only acceptance of is needed.
