Joseph Patrick Kennedy, Sr. (September 6, 1888 – November 18, 1969) was an American politician and leader of the Kennedy Family. His sons include President John F. Kennedy and Senators Robert F. Kennedy and Ted Kennedy. in 1938-40 he was U.S. Ambassador to the Court of St. James's in Britain, and a supporter of a policy of appeasement towards Hitler.
