A predator is an animal that prays on other animals, which is basically the same thing as a carnivore. Animals that are not predators are called prey, herbivores or vegetarians. Some common predatory animals include bears, lions, and sharks.

In Job 40:15 The Bible teaches us that all animals were herbivores before their expulsion from the Garden of Eden and there were no predators. This is born out by the fossil record.[1][2]
