A red diaper baby is a child of a member of the Communist Party, typically the American Communist Party in the 1940s and 1950s when the movement had a chance of gaining power in the United States.

The term was popularized by a sympathetic book about them published in 1998, called "Red Diapers: Growing Up in the Communist Left" ( Edited by Judy Kaplan and Linn Shapiro).[1]
