James Strom Thurmond was an American politician and Conservative hero, who served as a United States Senator and Governor of South Carolina. He ran for the presidency in the 1948 elections, under the banner of the segregationist States Rights Democratic Party, campaigning against racial intergration. Thurmond had outspoken views regarding other races, in particular blacks, or 'the Nigger race' as he refered to them in his infamous 1948 speech; yet in spite of this, it was revealed after Thurmond's death that he had fathered a child with a sixteen-year-old black woman as a young man.
