Supreme Courts are generally the highest appellate court in a judicial system, with no appeal being possible from their decisions. They are known by many names, including High Courts, Superior Courts, and Courts of Appeal.

In the United States, the highest court is the United States Supreme Court. Each state also has a Supreme Court that serves as a final appellate court. With the exception of New York, they are all called Supreme Courts. In New York, the supreme court is called the Court of Appeals, due to the judicial system. The Supreme Court of New York is actually a trial court.

In the United Kingdom, the Supreme Court is the House of Lords.
