:Right...but your exegesis is shaky, the LORD, here is (clearly) using a metaphor show how bad sin is, i.e. because He punishes it for such a long time. ::Oh, I'm not so sure God doesn't just mean exactly what is said there--there are many other Biblical references to a thousand generations, in Deuteronomy 5:9-11 and 7:8-10, and in 1 Chronicles and Psalms as well, specifically saying God will keep the covenant "for a thousand generations".... God could just as easily have said 500, or 10,000 generations (we are only now fewer than 70 generations away from Jesus, and maybe 120 away from Mount Sinai) if there were to be a larger or smaller number of generations counted, but there ''must'' be at least a thousand, and probably can be no more.... I wonder even if those thousand generations are traced from the lineage of a particular person.... [[User:Pandeism|Pandeism]] 23:58, 23 September 2007 (EDT)

==Number of the Great Beast==

In the section on popular culture, this article says works based on Revelation give the number of Satan as 666. It could also add that although for a long time it was believed that the number of the Great Beast described at the end of Revelation Chapter 13 was 666, it is now believed this is a mistranslation, and the number was actually 616. By my calculations, the end times will come in the year A.D. 28508....

This is derived as follows: the Death of Methuselah and Noah's flood occur in 2348 B.C., according to Bishop Ussher's infallibly calculated Bible chronology.... Ussher further calculates the year of the Exodus from Egypt as 1492 B.C., (which was followed by 40 years in the desert, lasting until 1452 B.C.)....

Exodus 20:4-6 "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments."

A generation is about 30 years, so a thousand generations would be about 30,000 years, of which 3499 have passed.... so that leaves 26,501 years left to go.... Pandeism 14:40, 23 September 2007 (EDT)
