Interesting essay, but I think it would be better if you removed the reference to Trump having a cult of personality. Its more that he's charismatic and an effective politician. Interesting essay, but I think it would be better if you removed the reference to Trump having a cult of personality. Its more that he's charismatic and an effective politician. Its only the Dems that claim Trump has a "cult". --IScott (talk) 23:48, 2 May 2021 (EDT)

Except for his deficit spending, due to his business/economic policies, his flouting of political correctness, his border policies, his cutting back of the administrative state and his SCOTUS/federal court nominees, I thought Donald Trump was an overall effective leader until 2020 (Although, I do think he sometimes "punched down" too much on Twitter though because some people are better ignored if you want to appear presidential). But I believe he was a bad leader in terms of the coronavirus pandemic overall as he downplayed the virus and also was a poor role model in terms of mask-wearing. I also think he poorly educated himself on the pandemic matter and his talk of putting disinfectant in people was comical.
Over 500,000 Americans died of the coronavirus pandemic so far.
But maybe no American president could have handled the pandemic well as each state has its own rules so an effective national policy was hard to form.
However, the Trump Administration did push hard for a coronavirus vaccine to be developed via Operation Warpspeed.
Since among most important things a national leader of the United States should protect/advance are "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" (U.S. Declaration of Independence), I cannot give Trump an A+ in terms of his presidency because of his poor performance during the coronavirus pandemic.
If Trump were to run again, I will vote for him in 2024 because the Democrats have markedly declined since the days of Truman/JFK.
But I have lost my early enthusiasm for Trump due to his handling of the coronavirus pandemic. Overall, I would give the American baby boomers an F when it comes to leadership.Conservative (talk) 00:19, 3 May 2021 (EDT)
Trump absolutely does have a cult of personality. As has every President since at least JFK, with the possible exception of Carter. And the funny thing is, this was inevitable regardless of whether or not he wanted it. Ever since at least the early '60s (and probably earlier than that), Americans at large have viewed the office of the President as borderline sacred, not much unlike how European monarchs were once viewed as God's representative within their realms. This trend was born out of the rise of mass media, which made it possible for Presidents to morph from purely statesmen to celebrity-statesmen. --Geopolitician (talk) 13:47, January 10, 2022 (EST)
