Eric Kaufmann, a professor at Birkbeck College, University of London, using a a wealth of demographic studies argues the decline of atheism in terms of its global adherents is an established trend that will persist for the foreseeable future and the rate of decline will accelerate.[1][2][3][4]

The American Christian Todd Strandberg said of atheism: "The ranks of atheists have always been small... The key problem with atheism is that it lacks a strong 'selling point'".[5] Christians maintain that the benefits of Christianity totally outweigh the benefits of atheism.[6] For example, Bible believing Christians commonly point out that the atheist population is more depressed than the Christian population and that atheists will ultimately wind up in hell.[7] See also: Hopelessness of atheism

World interest in atheism has declined since 2000

Currently, global atheism is shrinking and sound scholarship in the discipline of demographic research indicates that the shrinking of global atheism will accelerate and affect Western atheism (see: Decline of atheism).[8][9][10][11] Global atheism has been on the decline since 2000.[12] In addition, in terms of the English speaking world, Google trend data as of August 2013 indicates that the world's interest in atheism and evolutionism has declined since 2004 while interest in God has increased.[13]

The 2004 to 2007 publicity campaign for atheism in the Western World, offering a militant form of atheism called the New Atheism was not sustainable.[14] The level of public interest in atheism is not coming back in the West and global atheism is shrinking.[15]

Atheism contrasted with Christianity

Unlike atheism which merely offers vanity and unrelenting despair, Christianity offers an accurate view of the universe and man's place in it.
