I Timothy
I Timothy is a book in the New Testament written by the Apostle Paul. Along with II Timothy and Titus it is considered one of the Pastoral Epistles (letters written regarding the conduct of church leaders).
The main themes of 1 Timothy are: the importance of sound doctrine, God and creation, proper church leadership (Including requirements to be a church leader), and godly living. It serves as a guide for the young Christian Timothy, and by extension, the church as whole, on how to combat false teachings, maintaining church and Christian community order, and maintaining a Christian community that reflects the character of Jesus Christ.[1][2]
I Timothy 2:12 has been the subject of much debate within Christianity: more conservative theologians argue that it absolutely bars women from leadership roles in the church (pastor, deacon, elder) while more liberal ones argue that Paul was only speaking to the male-dominated culture of his day.
