A Philosophical Enquiry into the Origin of Our Ideas of the Sublime and Beautiful is a 1757 treatise on aesthetics written by the conservative Edmund Burke. It was the first thorough philosophical exposition on separating the beautiful and the sublime into their own individual and rational categories. The 2nd edition of A Philosophical Inquiry into the Origin of Our Ideas of the Sublime and Beautiful was published in 1759.
