Bain Capital
Bain Capital is an American financial services firm based in Boston, Massachusetts. It works on private equity, venture capital, credit and hedge fund investments. Bain makes diversified investments in many industry sectors and geographic regions. As of early 2012, the firm managed approximately $66 billion of investor capital.
Mitt Romney profited from the exploitive tactics of this firm, as it acquired companies, burdened them with debt, laid off many of their employees, and took their assets for the enrichment of Bain partners.
The firm was founded in 1984 by partners from the consulting firm Bain & Company. Bain Capital has invested in or acquired hundreds of companies, ruining many of them. These include AMC Entertainment, Aspen Education Group, Brookstone, Burger King, Burlington Coat Factory, Clear Channel Communications, Domino's Pizza, DoubleClick, Dunkin' Donuts, D&M Holdings, Guitar Center, Gymboree, Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), Sealy, The Sports Authority, Staples, Toys R Us, Warner Music Group and The Weather Channel.
