Book burning is an act involving the purposeful setting of fire to a book. It can be considered the commission of two crimes, arson and destruction of property, unless one has already purchased the book or sets fire to it on their own property. It is a common authoritarian tactic.[1][2]

Ray Bradbury wrote the fictional dystopian novel Fahrenheit 451 about book burning.[3]

It has been commonly partaken by Western leftists;[4][5][6] however, it has also been committed by opponents of social justice warriors.[7]

The deplatforming of conservative voices on Youtube and Facebook has been described as "the digital equivalent of book burning."
