How long does the contest last? DanH 19:36, 27 September 2007 (EDT)

I believe it goes until next Friday. I'll try to get that verified--Tash 19:42, 27 September 2007 (EDT)
  • Nice graphic and name, Tash! I would really double check with Ed Poor about his participation....I will be talking to him later and attempt to nail him down. --şŷŝôρ-₮KṢρёаќǃ 19:40, 27 September 2007 (EDT)
  • Tash, what is the /2 or /3 by the names on the contest page? I already have such a page from the last one....Nice "editing" today! I was watching you. ;-) --şŷŝôρ-₮KṢρёаќǃ 20:01, 27 September 2007 (EDT)
I thought some people might want to keep their old contest pages but since you brought it up I'll leave that up to you guys to decide. Thanks TK--Tash 20:06, 27 September 2007 (EDT)
  • I am really dense, mean instead of blanking the old one, use a new one, by putting the slash and number? --şŷŝôρ-₮KṢρёаќǃ 20:11, 27 September 2007 (EDT)
Whatever, I'm confused (I've confused myself!!...) do whatever you want:) I just blanked my old page and am going to use that--Tash 20:15, 27 September 2007 (EDT)

I like the pic, Tash. I was going to come up with some sort of corny "let's bomb 'em" battle call but I decided against it :) HelpJazz 21:22, 27 September 2007 (EDT)

Are we transferring points from the previous contest, or what? I see some with points already....--şŷŝôρ-₮KṢρёаќǃ 07:15, 28 September 2007 (EDT)
No, we are not transferring points from the last contest. Some people may just be jumping at the gun a little early...--Tash 08:59, 28 September 2007 (EDT)

Please add team strategy information to this list:

Here are some general ideas I have found and thought of:

  1. Creating articles on the Founding Fathers (go to the article and see all the “red” links)
  2. Add all the terms to American Government Terms, and get half a point for each each.
  3. Create articles on United States Governors (go to the article and see all the “red” links).

Remember to read the point system so you know how to use your strategy most effectively.--Tash 10:21, 28 September 2007 (EDT)

I haven't thought of too many - and I'll probably do at least some of these myself - but articles on sport positions could work. For example, wide receiver, point guard, (I know most football positions have yet to be created - not sure about basketball)--IDuan 20:32, 29 September 2007 (EDT)
The only thing is that sports terms get about 1/3 credit. Of course, if you can turn out sports terms 3 times faster then by all means go do it!
By the way, team, sorry I haven't been contributing that much yet. I don't really get going on the weekends until after the sun goes down, but since I don't have night editing I have a small window of opportunity. However once the school week starts back up (yeah ironic, I know) I'll have a lot more time to edit. My strategy is two-fold: (1) I will create a bunch of new chemistry entries that I have been too lazy to write so far. These won't be the full 10 points, but I'll be able to crank them out pretty quickly. (2) I will go through the rest of the chem category and clean up. A lot of those entries are full of easy points: undead + bold title + 1-2 sentence addition = 3 points, and I can easily crank through 50 or so of those in an afternoon. Hopefully the other team doesn't read our page though, or I've just lost my only edge! HelpJazz 21:36, 29 September 2007 (EDT)

Point System

  • Quality new entry: 10 points
    • Definition:A Quality New Entry includes at least two full-length paragraphs, three relevant citations, several links to other entries, some in-depth content and designations of category.
    • Exception: Entertainment-related* Quality New Entries will receive only 4 points.
  • An Ordinary New Entry: 6 points
    • Definition: An Ordinary New Entry is a new entry which does not meet the qualifications for a Quality New Entry, but is of higher quality than a Short New Entry.
    • Exception: Entertainment-related* Ordinary New Entries will receive only 2 points.
  • Quality edit of an existing entry: 4 points
    • Definition: A Quality Edit to an existing article includes at least two extra sentences, an additional reference, and the inclusion of an important or relevant fact.
    • Exception: Entertainment-related* Quality Edits will receive only 2 points.
  • Short New Entry: 4 points
    • Definition: A Short New Entry contains only a few sentences and may or may not have a reference.
    • Exception: Entertainment-related Short New Entries will receive only 2 points.
  • Minor Edit of an existing entry: 2 points
    • Definition: A Minor Edit is an edit which does not meet the qualifications for a Quality Edit. These edits might include small formatting changes, spelling and grammatical changes and/or the addition of a category.
  • Bonus Points
    • An additional bonus of 3 points is awarded for adding a new entry on the "most-wanted" list, Special:Wantedpages
    • An additional bonus of 1 point is awarded for adding a link to an entry on the Special:Deadendpages, and thereby removing that entry from that list
    • An edit to an existing entry may qualify as a New Entry if the edit is substantial enough.
    • Adding a unique working link within a lecture: 2 points
      • Adding an additional (non-unique) working links for the same term within the same American Government Lecture: 1 point
    • Adding two new terms to American Government Terms: 1 point

  • *An entry is "entertainment-related" if it relates to a subject not taught as core curriculum in a typical high school or college. This includes articles on sports, popular music, movies, and other entertaining but not necessarily educational subjects.
    • Exception: Full credit will be given for notable or important historical subjects, and for political entries.
    • Exception: Full credit will be given for reasonable subjects which are educational but not necessarily taught in a typical school.

How We Can Catch Up?

Ok everyone: at my latest calculation - we're down pretty big - at least by 100 points (more likely 200 after today). Is there anything we can do to fix this strategy wise?

On a side note, I think one of our positives is that we're more spread out - they have two MAJOR contributors (who have over 300 points each) and then it kind of drops off and keeps dropping off, and we have two major contributors (with over 200 points each), and then we kinda drop off but then steady ourselves. (Or more simply: by rankings, our third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh places all have more edits than their counterparts - some by a good margin.)--IDuan 17:01, 30 September 2007 (EDT)

I think I said this somewhere, but I'll start catching up during the week. I was going to edit last night and Friday night but I don't have night editing... HelpJazz 17:35, 30 September 2007 (EDT)

  • For those who like to do easy stuff: go to the American Government Terms and if you can think of any terms to add: add them - 1pt each. If your term is a red-link, create it.--IDuan 17:20, 30 September 2007 (EDT)
  • Go to Wikipedia, click random page, if an article appropriate for CP shows up, see if CP has it, if not, create it.--IDuan 17:20, 30 September 2007 (EDT)

Day 5

We now have 2260 points. This doesn't count LearnTogether's points today. We should regain the lead with the final tally. Also, Team Galaxy is counting nine editors instead of just seven. Their total should be 2234 now - not 2294. --Crocoite 22:09, 2 October 2007 (EDT)

Right. Great job today everyone!--Tash 22:17, 2 October 2007 (EDT)

Finish Line

Hello team - is the cut off time at midnight Thursday or noon Friday? Thanks ;-) Learn together 02:52, 4 October 2007 (EDT)

Noon Friday. It's on the Main Page. --Crocoite 03:00, 4 October 2007 (EDT)
Thank you ;-) Also, what scoring method do you use for undeadended pages? It says one bonus point, so is that 3 points (counting a minor edit) or must there be some other edit? If another edit is required and a page is undeadended with, say, 3 links, would that then count as a minor edit for a 3 points total? I don't want to feel like I'm cheating, but I'm uncertain how to score these. Learn together 03:10, 4 October 2007 (EDT)
1 pt for undeadend page + 2 pts for minor edit = 3 pts. I have been scoring the 3 pts if I undeadend the page + bold the title or fix spelling, grammar, etc. --Crocoite 15:07, 4 October 2007 (EDT)
I've been doing the same thing. Also, I've been counting redirects as partial minor edits, 1 point each.
By the way: I'm guessing editing is going to be cut off soon (I feel the invisible clock ticking) so I'll keep plugging away tonight as long as I can and tally up my score in the morning. HelpJazz 00:01, 5 October 2007 (EDT)
Both you and Crocoite are correct. That's the way Andy is doing it. Personally, I'm not taking any points for redirects, and I do a lot of them. I just look at it that Andy's not taking points for blocks, and he's spending a lot of time in that area. Some things we just do because we see them and take care of them, but it won't effect the contest. Just a few more hours to go. ;-) Learn together 04:01, 5 October 2007 (EDT)
  • Just a few hours left...--Tash 09:08, 5 October 2007 (EDT)

Thanks All

Thanks Tash for having me on your team and to all of my teammates. It was fun and we helped to really fill out and improve Conservapedia at the same time, a win-win situation. ;-) Learn together 12:24, 5 October 2007 (EDT)

And we may have won:) Great job, once we get all the points totaled up we should be ahead.--Tash 12:27, 5 October 2007 (EDT)

I think we pulled it out! Thanks and congats to all--Tash 15:00, 5 October 2007 (EDT)

Congrats!--BethTalk2ME 15:22, 5 October 2007 (EDT)

Thanks Beth, has your team completed counting its point totals yet or are we gonna have Florida 2000 (Galaxy, no Airborne, nope Galaxy, Airborne...)?--Tash 15:25, 5 October 2007 (EDT)

We have completed counting(to my great regret) :( You have officially won. Congratulations. It was a great contest; very exiting.

  • Learn together:Amazing amount of edits!
  • Tash:Awesome!
  • Crocoite:Nice Job!
  • TK:Great effort!
  • Iduan:Nice pages!
  • HelpJazz:Good work!
  • EdPoor:Great!
  • DanH:Good Job!

I had a great time altogether! It was a close win, and you guys did great! What more can I say?... :) --BethTalk2ME 15:38, 5 October 2007 (EDT)

Awesome, I guess I don't have to count up last night's points then. I wasn't really looking forward to it :) Thanks for the great contest, everyone! HelpJazz 16:09, 5 October 2007 (EDT)

Wow! that's about as close as you can get to a draw! Now I know why you were waiting for me to tally my final figures. ;-) We couldn't have planned it to be more even. It seems to me both teams won. You guys did a great comeback! Another 5 minutes and you could've won. You should've warned us you were getting so close. ;-) Learn together 16:46, 5 October 2007 (EDT)
