DeSantis congressional record
DeSantis congressional record is that of a liberal-leaning Republican, despite representing a congressional district having a +7 Republican demographic according to the renowned Cook index: "U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis of Florida’s 6th Congressional District, +7 Republican."[1]
Compared with the somewhat-conservative congressman Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL), also from the South, "Out of 917 votes in the 115th Congress, they disagreed on 66 votes, including 6 major votes."[2]
Unlike Brooks, Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) voted for big spending bills and also for continued NSA Surveillance Program, suggesting that he's a puppet of the Deep State.
Comparing DeSantis to the strongly conservative Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) reveals more liberal tendencies by DeSantis. "Out of 980 votes in the 115th Congress, they disagreed on 236 votes, including 18 major votes."[3]
Those bills include more spending bills, and the American Health Care Act that passed by only 4 votes (thanks to DeSantis) in 2017. Conservative Rep. Thomas Massie said in response to cable host Joe Scarborough about that bill:
| “ | "If you're a conservative Republican and you've got a chance to reform Obamacare, why would any Republican vote for a bill that, as you said, doesn't lower insurance rates, doesn't really at the end of the day lower deductibles, it doesn't really lower the cost curve of healthcare going into the future and it doesn't bring free market forces into the healthcare system," Scarborough wondered, "Why would any conservative vote for this bill?"
"Well, Joe, you've been on the Hill and you know how this place works," Massie replied, chalking conservative support for the bill up to the influence of healthcare lobbyists. "The insurance companies were the ones at the seat of the table when this bill was written," he said, "That's why everybody comes out worse except for the insurance companies if this bill passes."
