Famous American political writers are those who excelled at the intersection of writing and politics, often having influence as a result. Their world is one of non-fiction rather than novels. Many great politicians do not make this list because they do not write much on their own, while many great writers eschewed politics. These writers can be conservative, liberal, or libertarian, but they must have written about politics rather than merely philosophy, and they must have authored their own material.
