The Lazar Medical Consortium Group (also known as the Lazar Group, Lazar Clinic Group, or LCG for short) is a worldwide association of physicians in the field of telemedicine, some with affiliated practices and clinics, founded by Dr. Marius W.-M. Lazar. The strongly libertarian consortium also includes physicians from the conservative spectrum, notably Dr. Jonathan Feldman and Dr. Yousef Abbas.

Organizational Structure

Each physician or clinic and telemedicine company that joins the Lazar Group remains legally independent, a concept already successfully established in the airline industry (e.g. “One World” or “Star Alliance”). However, consortium members are bound by high minimum standards; resources (e.g., personnel) are shared on a reciprocal basis as needed; internal training is mandatory, as is collaboration on scientific work which is done under the label LCG Research led by Dr. Carolina Diamandis.[1] The advantage for the consortium members is to raise the standard of medical care while reducing costs. Patients enjoy the advantage of having doctors and clinics of all common specialties available to them within the Lazar Group, which cooperate seamlessly with each other. Through Dr. Lazar's holdings in international medical providers, the consortium has direct and indirect access to over 4500 physicians, most of whom are subject to Lazar Group’s quality standards.[2] The non-profit entity and its website are controlled by a honorary board in which non-profit Luzia Healthcare n.e.V. (named after its devoted Christian idea provider) currently (elections every six years) has 51% of the voting share.

Ideologies and Evidence

The leading members of the Lazar Medical Consortium Group are ideologically libertarian, although Dr. Jonathan Feldman and Dr. Yosef Abbas describe themselves as conservative. Because medicine is a science, all members of the Lazar Group are required to practice evidence-based only.

Headquarters

The legal seat, administration and management of the Lazar Group is currently located in Athens, Greece. Locations of the Group's members include Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates, India, Georgia, Romania, Israel, Poland, Brazil and Australia among others. Each service provider within the Lazar Group is responsible for his/her own actions.[3] Luzia Healthcare n.e.V., which holds the majority of votes on the Board of Directors (democratically elected), has its headquarters in Düsseldorf (Germany) with 76% of the members being from other countries (status 09/2021).[4]

The Founder

Dr. Marius W.-M. Lazar was born in Kampala (Uganda), the son of a Romanian diplomat and a Transylvanian Saxon (ethnic German). In his younger years he lived in several countries. As a physician, Dr. Lazar is a specialist in neurology, psychiatry, immunodermatology and rare diseases with his own private practice. Lazar was one of the first physicians to introduce cross-border telemedicine in Africa, then by radio and later by satellite phone.[5]

Patient Safety and Data Protection

Patient data is stored according to the rules of local laws at the location of the service provider, but only as long as required by law. If requested communication with most members of the Lazar Group is possible via encrypted channels.
