Lift Every Voice and Sing

Lift Every Voice and Sing is a hymn, written by James Weldon Johnson, set to music by his brother, J. Rosamond Johnson. It premiered in 1900.

Because of its popularity within the Black community (and, in part, due to promotion by the NAACP), it has been nicknamed the "Black National Anthem". Not surprisingly, it is played at major NFL events such as the Super Bowl.
