The Republic of Seychelles is an archipelago nation located in the Indian Ocean to the northeast of Madagascar. It gained its independence from the United Kingdom on June 29, 1976, and is a member of the African Union. Its capital and largest city is Victoria. As of January 2008, the president is James Michel, who was elected to a five-year term in 2006.[1] Seychelles is 455 km large, which is about 2.5 times the size of Washington, D.C. About 80,000 people live in the nation.
Religion
Roman Catholicism, is about 82% of the population, followed by Anglicanism at around 5%, other Christian groups are Baptists, Seventh-day Adventists, and Pentecostals. The country has a rich Christian heritage, primarily due to its early French settlers[2].
