I don't know much about the subject. I have to admit I'm a bit lost as here as to that statement as well. I tend to think that it was a noble attempt. :Presidents are supposed to do what? Be politically motivated? Rescue hostages? Presidents should rescue hostages for the sake of the hostages or the sake of justice or something like that, not for political motives (e.g. to make the president look good).
