TerryO, I was going to ask which bit of the photograph's caption you disagreed with, as it all seems quite correct to me. I gather, however, that it was to the "very controversial" bit. Frankly, I'm surprised that you would dispute that Scientology is very controversial, but I also noticed that before it was removed, the word "very" was removed. Is the caption acceptable to you in that form ("Scientology center in Los Angeles, California. Scientology is a controversial religion founded by L. Ron Hubbard")?
Second, I don't accept your argument that the article is about the religion and the photograph is of a church. That the photograph is of a church ''of that religion'' is quite enough. You can't have a picture of a religion itself, because a religion is not a physical object, so any pictures must be of objects ''associated with'' that religion. A Scientology church clearly is.
Thirdly, neither do I accept your argument about the trademark. If you can show me to be wrong, go ahead, but until you do, I will believe that the situation you are talking about is using a trademark itself, not about using a photograph that happens to have a trademark in it's proper setting and occupying a small portion of the picture.
