Despite his communist leanings, he managed to rebuild China's economy by embracing this policy of free trade, and steering China away from its despotic headings. Unfortunately he was not completely succesful and as a result, communism still exists in China. However, it is generally accepted that there would be even more starvation in China without free trade.
