Newt Gingrich (born 6/17/1943) is a conservative politician. Gingrich served as Speaker of the House of Representatives, and is generally credited with being the mastermind of the morality-based Republican Revolution of 1994. Gingrich's accomplishments include a number of showdowns with [[President Bill Clinton.]] In one case, Gingrich called Clinton's bluff and shut down the federal government rather than give into Clinton's demands for tax increases.
