I think the most significant aspect of this passage is that it appears in KJV, but not in modern translations. So I put that point at the top, followed by an example. PeterKa 18:37, 8 January 2014 (EST)

Why the Comma was absent from Greek manuscripts

The oldest manuscripts in existence (B and Aleph) date to the 4th century. In the 3rd century, a little something called the Sabellian heresy led Greek Christians to expediently remove the Johannine Comma from their manuscripts, because I John 5:7-8 was misquoted by Sabellians to argue that the Father was on the cross. And of course, this is the very type of attitude taken by the so-called "Conservative Bible Project": when facing liberal distortion of a Bible passage, just remove it from the Bible altogether! I wonder how anyone can live by "every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God" (Matt. 4:4, Luke 4:4) if they remove the word of God from the Scriptures. Oh well, apparently they're enlightened grandmaster initiates who overcame the demiurge unlike the rest of us catechumen.

Oh, and Cyprian in the mid-3rd century explicitly quoted the Johannine Comma. Checkmate deniers! —LT Rev. 22:13 Sunday, 18:09, March 10, 2024 (EDT)
