That's not quite true... for example, the sentence "After the war, Pegler started off as a sports columnist, but later wrote general interest articles" was added to the WP page by editor Stepp-Wulf in this exact form two years before you ever touched the article. I hate to complain (you're my favorite editor to read here and do great work at both sites), just a reminder for all of us about the dangers of copying WP pages! --MarkGall 19:03, 9 July 2009 (EDT)

Henry Wallace

Wallace's "Dear Guru" letters wound up in the hands of Pegler. Perhaps something could be added. Rob Smith 18:42, 9 July 2009 (EDT)

RibSmith has a good point as does MarkGall.RJJensen 19:10, 9 July 2009 (EDT)

I disagree with the implied thesis of this article

Arguably, Pegler's muckraking populist crusade against the New Deal was not "right-wing vs. left-wing," but rather "old left vs. new left." Many old progressives opposed the New Deal for straying from the classic Jeffersonian, anti-centralization, anti-bureaucracy concept of leftism, and even if Pegler thought of himself as a "conservative," that doesn't make him one.

He was also an incredibly crude opponent of anti-lynching legislation, trivializing Southern lynchings as no larger problems than Northern labor union violence, and launched terrible attacks against NAACP leader Walter F. White, who worked for years urging Congress to pass civil rights legislation protecting Southern blacks from (Leftist) mobs.

To honor Pegler as a "conservative" is to ironically validate the old Leftist "right-wing conservatives are white supremacists" narrative, which I for one am frankly tired of. Why must modern-day right-wingers insist on the same repetitive stupidity getting them dragged through the mud? You guys can't run from the reality of "systemic racism" forever and pretend like it doesn't exist. Systemic white supremacy in the U.S. was created by the Left, and all of your cowardice in refusing to call this out, because of the whole "conservatives don't emphasize race" pile of dung excused as a fancy self-exalting argument, is morally reprehensible. —LT Rev. 22:13 Wednesday, 20:55, November 28, 2023 (EST)
