The Intercept is an American nonprofit news organization known for investigative journalism, focusing on national security, politics, civil liberties, foreign policy, technology, criminal justice, and corporate power.

It launched on February 10, 2014, as a project of First Look Media (backed by eBay co-founder Pierre Omidyar). The founders were Glenn Greenwald, Jeremy Scahill, and Laura Poitras—notable for their work with Edward Snowden on NSA surveillance revelations. In 2023, it became an independent nonprofit.

The site describes itself as providing "fearless, adversarial journalism" that investigates powerful institutions, exposes corruption and injustice, and operates independently of corporate interests. It publishes articles, podcasts (such as The Intercept Briefing and Deconstructed), and has a presence on YouTube, X (@theintercept, with nearly 900k followers), Instagram, and Facebook. It also maintains a Press Freedom Defense Fund to support journalists facing persecution.
