Lockheed Martin is an aerospace manufacturer and provider of systems and IT services. It was formed in 1995 from the Lockheed Corporation and Martin Marietta Corporation. Headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, Lockheed Martin employs about 140,000 people worldwide. Most of the $39.6 Billion dollars in sales (2006) were to the US federal government, primarily the Department of Defense.
The Aeronautics Division of Lockheed Martin includes the "Skunk Works" (or Advanced Development Programs) which is responsible for some of the most advanced aircraft ever, in part because it works outside the regular bureaucracy of large corporations.
