Harlan Andrew Romanoff (born August 24, 1966 in Washington, D.C.) is a progressive Democrat who served as Speaker of the Colorado House of Representatives from 2005 through 2008. He was an unsuccessful candidate for the Democrat nomination for U.S. Senate in the 2020 election to unseat Republican Cory Gardner, having previously and unsuccessfully ran in 2010 for the other Senate seat.
Education and early political career
Romanoff earned a bachelor's degree at Yale and a master's degree in public policy at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government. He began teaching in Central America and later graduate students at the University of Colorado at Denver's School of Public Affair and political science at the Community College of Aurora. Romanoff was elected to the State House in 2000. He was elected by his colleagues Minority Leader and then Speaker of the House after Democrats took control of the chamber in 2004.
2010 U.S. Senate Democrat primary in Colorado
Romanoff challenged incumbent senator Michael Bennet in the Democrat primary for U.S. Senate, ultimately losing by eight percent of the vote.[1]
