Troy Nehls, born April 7, 1968 (age 58), is a police officer currently serving as the sheriff of Fort Bend County, Texas. A Republican, he is the representative-elect from the state's 22nd congressional district and will take office on January 3, 2021.

Nehls announced on December 17, 2020 that he would join other Republican representatives-elect in demanding an investigation into the 2020 election fraud.[1]

2020 U.S. House election in Texas' 22nd district

Nehls announced in early December 2019 his run for United States House of Representatives to replace retiring Republican Pete Olson.[2] A possible RINO who opposes Donald Trump[3] in terms of immigration, he ran against conservative activist Kathaleen Wall in the Republican primary,[4] who has advocated for punishing China over the coronavirus.[5] However, he opposes defunding the police[6] and promotes law enforcement.

After winning the primary runoff over Wall, Nehls removed his public support for Trump from his campaign website.[7]

Facing Democrat Sri Kulkarni, who has previously been arrested for cocaine,[8] Nehls won the general election to succeed Olson in the increasingly liberal district.[9]

Political positions

Troy Nehls vigorously attacked the 2nd amendment[10], and the media praised him for promoting "gun safety".
