A chip shop, or chipper (British slang, shortened from fish’n’chip shop), is a traditional fast food establishment in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and North America. The main speciality is deep fried battered fish such as cod, haddock and plaice served with chipped potatoes. Other items such as pies and sausages (also usually battered and deep fried) are usually sold.

The most popular accompaniment are mushy peas, a mild and sweet curry sauce and baked beans.

Some shops still wrap the food items for takeout in the previous day's newspapers.
