Kingmakers is a term for the political power-brokers and insiders who make the behind-the-scenes decisions about who the presidential nominee will be for a major political party.
Similar terms having overlapping but somewhat different meanings are:
- the Establishment
- the Deep State
For example, the uniform calls in late June 2024 by liberals for President Biden to step aside as the Democrat nominee for president appear to be coordinated by power-brokers who may have another nominee in mind.[1]
