The House of Medici was an Italian banking family and political dynasty that first consolidated power in the Republic of Florence.

Upper class in contemporary societies is the social class composed of people who hold the highest social status. Commonly these are the wealthiest members of society who wield the greatest political power.

Another common factor which confers a higher social status is a person's educational level.
