The Masters is the most prestigious annual American golf tournament, which is held each spring in Augusta, Georgia. In disrespect of Holy Week as televised professional sports increasingly intrude on Christian holy days, in 2023 the Masters was held on Holy Thursday, Apr 6 through Easter Sunday, April 9. But in 2026, the Masters is being held after Easter, on April 9 through 12.
Co-founded by Bobby Jones, considered one of the finest golfers ever, the Masters is the most coveted event in the world in professional golf. Unlike most professional golfing events, the Masters is an invitational based only on selection by the Augusta National Golf Club.
To the dismay of Never-Trumpers, the Masters tournament officials announced that LIV players (who competed at Trump golf courses in 2022) would be welcome at the Masters in 2023.f
LIV 2023
Players on the pro-Trump LIV tour, led by its popular Phil Mickelson who finished tied for second (with another LIV star) after shooting a spectacular final-round 65, are credited with making the tourney thrilling this year. "There were 18 elephants in the room at Augusta this week in the form of LIV players in the field. Twelve of them made the cut. One of them almost won and others were in contention."[1]
Rory McIlroy, who has been harshly critical of LIV while McIlroy stands with the PGA Tour throughout its boycott of Trump golf courses, missed the cut at this Masters and abruptly pulled out of the PGA Tour event the following weekend.[2]
