The Southeastern Conference (SEC) is a major collegiate sports conference. It is one of the "Power 5" conferences in Division I sports.[1] The SEC is headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama.
The SEC is composed of 14 sports teams located mainly in the Southern United States, of which 13 represent public universities, and one represents a private institution. Two additional public universities, the University of Oklahoma and the University of Texas, announced plans to join the SEC from the Big 12 Conference and were accepted for membership, and will join in 2024.
The conference is divided up into two sections, East and West. The sections will cease once OU and Texas join.
The Eastern Conference is made up of:
- The Florida Gators
- The Georgia Bulldogs
- The Kentucky Wildcats
- The Missouri Tigers
- The South Carolina Gamecocks
- The Tennessee Volunteers
- The Vanderbilt Commodores (the only private institution in the conference)
The West is made up of:
- The Alabama Crimson Tide
- The Arkansas Razorbacks
- The Auburn Tigers
- The Louisiana State Tigers
- The Ole Miss Rebels
- The Mississippi State Bulldogs
- The Texas A and M Aggies
This conference has produced numerous titles in all divisions of athletics.
