The University of Georgia is the state run, public university serving Georgia in Athens, some 60 miles north of Atlanta. The University was founded in 1801 with a land grant over 40,000 acres, although it was incorporated by an act of the state legislature in 1785, making it the first chartered state supported university. Today the university has an enrollment of over 33,000 students. The University has a budget of 1.3 billion dollars, only one third coming from the state of Georgia.[2]

Varsity sports teams at the University of Georgia are the Bulldogs.
