Tulane University is a private university in New Orleans, Louisiana. Tulane has been closed twice; during the American Civil War and Hurricane Katrina.

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich is a Tulane alumnus; so is the former Speaker of the Louisiana House of Representatives, Jimmy Dimos of Monroe, a Tulane law school graduate.
